Q:

Water Filter Leaking 10659262990 Kenmore Side-by-side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your water filter is leaking. I did look into the model number you have provided and it sounds like the o-ring on the filter is bad or the filter housing is broken causing it to leak.

To get to the water filter housing you will need to remove the bottom grille, remove the filter, and remove the screw securing the housing.

When removing the old filter it helps to push in slightly as you turn it counter clockwise and then pull outward. That helps break the vacuum seal that keeps the filter from leaking. Excessive force may damage the filter housing.
It also helps to press in lightly as your are turning the new filter in place. The position of the cap should let you know when the filter is in place. You want to start with the cap positioned vertically. Slide the filter into the filter housing and turn the cap clockwise until the filter is horizontal and lines up with the grille. Be sure to flush the water system after you have installed the new filter otherwise you may have dripping from the dispenser.

The housing has 2 screws in front holding to the fridge frame and you will need to remove the 1/4 screw that is holding the small metal arm rod to the left of the housing.

I would recommend replacing the filters first and then checking the water lines and housing.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern about the freezing condition in the fridge section. If you have turned the thermostat to the off position and it's still running, it means the contact inside the thermostat is stuck and the thermostat # 2198202 will need to be replaced. It's available at http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/2198202/0046/106?pathTaken=directMatch&filterPart=&pop=flush&prst=0&shdPart=2198202&sid=MMLxexpertxmerch . I hope this helps you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.
