Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you're having this problem with the water flow in the fridge. You have already made some very nice checks. When the water flow is weak to both the dispenser and icemaker the problem will most always be with the water valve. It is possible when this type of problem occurs, it could be a filter problem but by removing the filter and the same low flow rate occurred, it eliminated the filter. Low water pressure to the unit will also cause this type of problem but it appears you have checked that also. Now, a defective water filter housing could cause this but it would be very rare for the filter housing to fail. The valve # 4389177 will probably need to be replaced. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Is there a difference between the part you mention and this one, which is the same as the part number on the part on the fridge and a few bucks cheaper? http://www.sears.com/roper-refrigerator-icemaker-replacement-inlet-water-solenoid-valve/p-SPM6304088703?prdNo=2&blockNo=2&blockType=G2 Also, I now have a decent leak coming from the hoses at the point where they connect to the filter housing. They are a bit loose, but I cannot see how they attach nor any way of securing them. I have not fully removed the housing, as I will have to disconnect the hoses from the valve first. Any thoughts on this one?

Jeremy, the valve I have listed is the updated replacement valve that the older valve number listed will change to. I'm attaching a picture with instructions of how the water tube fittings work. Remove the tubes and then reinsert them. If they still leak, remove them again and cut 1/2" off the ends. If they still leak, then the filter housing # 2186443 will need to be replaced. I hope this will help you.

One of the collets seems to be loose on one of the water lines going to the filter housing and that is the side that is leaking water. It sticks out a little farther than it's partner and is looser. Do I need to replace that housing as well or can I just replace that piece? Thanks again.

Thank you for the question about temperature range on your Kenmore side by side refrigerator. I will be glad to assist with this question.
Your refrigerator unit has two controls that help balance temperatures in the fresh food section and the freezer section. The fresh food control is the cycling control and reads the fresh food temperature. The freezer control regulates the amount of air allowed to leave the freezer section and flow into the fresh food section. Therefore the higher the freezer section is set the harder it is for the fresh food section to stay cool without having to turn the fresh food section to a colder position.
Mid-range settings on both controls are recommended. At mid-range the freezer should maintain 0 to -5 degrees F. And the fresh food side 40 to37 degrees F. If this is not close to your temperature readings there could be any number of things causing poor cooling. I hope this helps understand how these control operate, should you need additional help please reply with details.

Thanks Ron H.
