okay. I got the cover off. Thanks for additional instructions on how to remove broken door mechanism assembly. But, there is a clear tape wire from the ice door to the front wiring and that was not part of the replacement parts that I received. Is that going to effect the useage of the ice from crushed to cube or anything else?

Q:

energy usage 10658587890 Kenmore Side by side refrigerator

A:

The amp draw is the main consideration when using a generator to power the refrigerator. That refrigerator will draw about 2 amps when the compressor is running. It usually draws a surge of about 6 amps for a few seconds when the compressor starts. When the automatic defrost heater is on, it will draw about 5 amps for about 1/2 hour. If you need more help, let us know.

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model 106.58587890; sorry you are having ice making issues. When an ice maker is not producing any ice the first thing to verify is the freezer temperature. In order for the ice maker to cycle and dump ice the temperature must be at least 5 degrees or less constantly in the freezer section. Temperatures higher will stall or completely stop ice production. Your ice maker can be tested and the water inlet valve also.  I will attach an image with testing instructions. If your temperatures are okay then either the icemaker or the water valve will be the cause of no ice.  _Always disconnect power supply before servicing the appliance and when testing live voltage be sure to wear proper safety equipment (gloves and eye protection) also be aware of sharp metals on product_If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Ron H.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your ice maker. This can be difficult icemaker to check and can stop working for a few reasons. Some are listed below:

  • The icemaker itself can fail
  • The water valve may not open
  • The fill tube can freeze up
  • Freezer temperature not cold enough

First disconnect power from the unit. Now remove the 3 screws holding the cover in place and you will see the board on the back side. Disconnect the wire harness and place a well insulated jumper between the black and black/white wires (not the white wire). Now the icemaker will need to be lowered to access the front module. I'm sending pictures with instructions to remove the icemaker. Pull the front cover off to access the module and you will see some test terminals (see picture). Use a well insulated jumper and place it between the L - V terminals. Reconnect power to the unit and with both jumpers in place, water should now flow to the icemaker (be prepared to catch water from the fill tube). If water does flow, the icemaker will need to be replaced. If no water flows but you can hear a humming noise, the water valve will need to be replaced. If nothing at all happens, some voltage checks will need to be made. If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, just click on this link to schedule service: Sears Home Services . I hope this helps. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Two of your experts have responded thanks so much. However, we have a bigger problem. The issue was not the tubing that leads to the water dispenser, the issue is the line that runs behind that tubing. Is that repairable?

Thank you for the reply. You should be able to repair any water line in the refrigerator. If the line that connects to the dispenser hose leading up the grille is leaking, there are two ways to fix it. The first is to order the reservoir. It can be quite challenging to replace the reservoir. The reservoir is located inside of the refrigerator and the tubes have to be fed through the cabinet. Then route the tubes in the same manner as the original. The second option is replace just the section of line that is leaking. Once you locate the source of the leak cut out the section. If there is enough slack in the line, you can connect the two back together with a union from the local hardware store. If the line is not long enough to reconnect you can pick up two unions and a piece of tubing from the store. You should be able to ask someone in the plumbing department and they can find the correct unions. If this something you do not think you can handle please have a service technician do the repair. If you need further assistance, feel free to reply below.

Q:

Why won't my new replacement water filter click and lock when inserted like the original filter for my refrigerator?

A:

According to my sources the water filter part#4396508 as shown in the first image is the correct replacement water filter for part#2200203. It should look like the replacement filter and it should also look like the original filter.

Be sure the cartridge cap is in the vertical position as show in step 5 in the instructions. Push the filter in until it stops and rotate clockwise to the horizontal position. Since I do not have an actual image of the filter that was sent to you, compare it to the original filter to see if there are any apparent differences that would prevent the filter from being installed. It may require more force to push inwards and rotate to lock on the new water filter.
