Q:

Not Making Ice 10658163700 Kenmore Elite Side by side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your icemaker does not work.

1. Check the temperature of the freezer becasue if it is fewer than 17 degrees F it wont make ice.
2.Check if your water fill spout is plugged with ice, if it is then it wont make ice.
3. Check to see if water is getting to the water inlet valve.
4.Use an OHM meter to check the continuity of the water inlet valve. If it does not have any continuity then you need to replace your water valve. If it does then the icemaker itself is the problem and may need to be replaced.

You can also visit searpartsdirect.com for parts, diagrams, and repair information.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for your question. Have a great day.

Thank you for your help. I did hire a Sear's serviceman. The circuit board that produces the light beam that turns the ice maker on and off was not performing its' function and was replaced. This is apparently a common failure and the serviceman carried the part in his truck. My ice maker lis now making ice. The on-line manual does not provide sufficient information for the homeowner to perform service at this level.

Thank you for your question. It is concerning when the ice dispenser is not working. On your refrigerator dispenser, the ice is dispensed by the auger motor, located under the ice bucket. The ice switch at the dispenser sends voltage to the auger motor. There are 2 things that need to be checked out. The volts from the dispenser control board and the voltage getting to the auger motor. Both of the checks will require some dis-assembly of the freezer door and the dispenser housing. If you want to attempt this troubleshooting and repair of your refrigerator I will be happy to assist you.

NOTE: Working with live electrical current can be very hazardous and possibly deadly. Testing voltage output requires working with electrical current. Do not attempt this measurement without the proper tools and safeguards.

If you decide to have a Sears professional troubleshoot and repair your refrigerator here is the link. SEARS HOME SERVICES .

I hope this information helps you. If you have other questions on your refrigerator reply to this thread.

Thank you for your question.

If you had bought the refrigerator form us, we would have the model number on file. If by chance you know the phone number of the original buyer, you could call 1-800-469-4663. They will be able to tell you what the model number is. I have checked our database and found a 22 cubic foot model that was made in 2004. Then model number for that unit is 10656246400. If you could provide me with the definite cubic foot size approximate age and color I might be able to find a closer model if this one looks too different.

Please provide more details below.

Thank you for using Manage my life.

Thank you Mark for the quick response and your willingness to help. I dont know have a phone number I can use check the model so I can only go with other external hints that are on the fridge itself. Like the label say, its looks like a 22 cu ft but who knows. 2004 sounds too old (I bought it in 2008 so I assume it might be 2 year older)? Is there a way to obtain a picture of the model you found? None of the manuals have a pictures of the fridge and none of them have the exact measurement of the fridge which could have been a huge tip. BTW: the color is Stainless Steel Meanwhile, some additional clues came up: We have found a number on one of the glass shelves in the refrigerator is 2204152, and the numbers off of the fresh and ready bin off of the door are 2303284 and part number 2303290 and 2313387.. Searching for the first number (2204152) I found many links to parts replacments. One interesting one is: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-elite-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-10658164703/0583/0165000/K0703009/00003?blt=06&prst=&shdMod= pointing to model #10658164703 Another one http://www.partselect.com/PartDetail.aspx?inventory=2328105&SourceCode=3 The strange thing about it. That is points to a Whirlpool parts. Does Whirlpool makes Kenmore? Does it make sense? The other two numbers didnt yield anything.

Thank you for replying. I have looked up models that were manufactured in 2006 with a stainless finish, with the glass shelf with the same part number. they are models, 10656396501, 10656383501 , 10656386501 and 10656393501. If the original box is 22 cubic foot model and with the sears package it might have different doors that bumped it to a 23 cubic foot model. You are right the refrigerator is made by Whirlpool. Sears does not make Any product. We have the manufacture build the appliance to our specifications with features exclusive to Sears. It would be difficult to find images of older refrigerators. I recommend looking in each manual to see if the controls and the dispensers are the same as yours. I hope this is helpful.

Thanks. I am having real problems with looking on the models manuals and recognizing the refrigirator. Can you try and explain more about what the model numbers means? Reason I am asking is that I believe the model number I provided above 58966 visually looks exactly like the one I have. The size is wrong but if the number gives a hint to the year it was made (again, I was guessing 2006 and believe those styles change from one year to another) and the series and from it we can see if there is a 22 C.F there. When I searched SearsParts for this model, it listed out the following models: 10658966705 , 10658966704 10658966703, 10658966702, 10658966701, 10658966704 If one of them is of the right size and have that drawer in it, then I think we will have a match.

Thank you for the reply. On closer examination of the sticker on the back of the refrigerator, I have a model number for you. The model number is going to be 10658163700 . There is a possibility the last digit could be a 1, 2, 3, or 4. The last digit is a revision number and should not cause any problems when ordering parts. I am sorry I missed the number in the beginning. I have provided you with an image that shows the model number break down.
