I know that it can be very difficult to have issues with your dispenser. Before you begin a repair I suggest eliminating some basics off of the troubleshooting checklist. I realize you have probably completed most of these, but I want to make sure we don't miss a single step that may resolve the problem. The checklist I am giving you is out of the manual. In case you aren't able to locate yours, I have included the link for you to view the manual online.

Owner's Manual for Kenmore model 106.58036800.

First make sure the freezer door is completely closed. Next, be sure the ice bin is firmly in position.
Use a wooden or plastic utensil to check and see if there is ice stuck in the delivery chute.
Check to see if ice has developed around the auger (metal spiral) in the ice bin. If you see ice, empty the ice container and let it come to remove temperature before using warm water to melt the ice away. (A sudden temperature change may cause the part to crack. If there is ice frozen around the auger, that means the temperature in the freezer is too warm letting the ice melt enough to clump up. Lower the temperature in the freezer and be sure to use the dispenser frequently to prevent future build up.
Test to see if both crushed and cubed functions are not working. Keep in mind, if the dispenser lever is held in too long, you  will need to wait about 3 minutes for the dispenser motor to reset before trying it again.
Make sure the shut off arm to the ice maker has not  been engaged. If the ice maker is off and it has not produced much ice, there may not be enough in the ice container to dispense it.
Check and see if the control lock feature has been activated.
Change your water filter. A clogged filter will affect the ice maker and dispenser before the water dispenser because the water tube to the ice maker is smaller. I have included that link also.

Water Filter for model model 106.58036800.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, then you will want to test the motor itself. First remove the ice bin from the freezer and press the button on the front of the refrigerator for cubed ice. Next, open the freezer door and hold down the door switch. This will make the freezer "think" the door is closed. Push on the lever to dispense ice. The dispenser motor should turn. If not, it is frozen. Before you remove the motor, you need to shut off the power to the refrigerator. You can do that by unplugging it or at the breaker box. Once you have the motor removed, heat and dry out the motor with a hairdryer. If you are able to turn the motor again, reinstall it.

If defrosting motor doesn't resolve the issue, with the power back on, hold the door switch and press the dispense lever. Check to see if the ice door at the dispenser chute opens and closes all the way. If not, look for an ice blockage. If there is no blockage, the ice door will need to be replaced.  If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your product not working correctly.

The display flashing is not a known problem.  I have done research and the best I could come up with is the fact the display or the thermistor could be registering a false temperature.  I would recommend you have a Sears Home Services  technician out to service the refrigerator.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.
