Q:

Kenmore Elite 106.57799700 Style 2 Auger Motor Replacement Help

A:

Thank you for your question. I know it can be disappointing when the ice dispenser stops working. From the information listed, this could be a motor failure but this dispenser system has an additional control board that could have failed and could be causing this problem. If you have a meter that reads both ac and dc voltages and if you feel confident that you can safely make some voltage checks, I will assist you further. I'm also attaching some pictures and instructions to access and replace the motor. Be sure to disconnect the power first. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thanks Scott. I'm glad I asked first before jumping right into motor replacement. Thanks for the pics; those will help. I do have a multi-meter and can do the voltage checks first if you can point me in the right direction on that.

Brian, I'm attaching a picture showing where the core board is located inside the dispenser. Now, before making the voltage checks, I'm attaching a second image of how to check the motor. If the motor # 2252130 does not ohm out to the specs listed, it will need to be replaced. If it checks ok, the voltage checks will need to be made. On the core board, place the meter leads on the br/wh and rd/wh wires with them still connected. Do not disconnect the wires. Set the meter on dc volts and press the door switch and the dispenser lever. If there is 120 volts dc, it means the board is ok and the motor will need to be replaced. If there is no voltage there, the core board # 2303843 will need to be replaced. Be very careful making this check. I hope this will help you.

The model number that you submitted (30000487135) is not a valid model number. Based on your description, I assume that you have a model that has the ice maker level detection system shown in the image below. In most versions of this level detection system, it is normal for the red led light to blink twice, pause and repeat when the door is opened and the flapper door on the left side pops out to block the infrared beam. You can use the information in the image below to check the control boards in this system if necessary. According to your details, the system is working normally. The light may have been steady in the past if the flapper door on the left side was stuck closed but is now opening to block the beam.

You did not mention whether you are having any problems with the ice maker. Reply with additional details and the full model number of your refrigerator if you need more help.

A Kenmore refrigerator model number will begin with 3 numbers such as 106 and then continue with 8 more numbers such as 106.52012103. Open the refrigerator door and look on the top of the right inside wall for the model number sticker.

A:

Hello Norman. That On/Off switch is for the ice maker. You have the type of system that is shown in the image above. When that switch is in the "Off" position the Infrared Receiver Sensor of the ice level detection system is covered. The ice in the ice maker module will not be ejected in that situation.
