The problem could be with the light socket itself or the bulb. The light socket can be popped out to check the voltage and wires. Be sure to disconnect power to the unit first. With the light socket out, check voltage from the yellow to white wires with the bulbs in place. The door switch will also need to be pressed in. If there is voltage there and the bulbs are good, the socket # 4387478 will need to be replaced. If there is no voltage there, it would indicate a possible broken wire. In this case I recommend having a technician check it.

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks or repairs that might be recommended, please contact a local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.

Thank you for your question. If the control panel is blank it will normally indicate a problem with the main control board. However, if it's sparking, this could be a problem with both boards. The icemaker problem could be due to the freezer temperature not getting cold enough, the optic boards may have failed or it could be due to the icemaker itself or a failed water valve. First check the temperature, by placing a thermometer between some packages. Air temperature is not a good check. The temperature should be between 0 and 5 degrees. If it gets above 12 degrees, the icemaker may not work. I'm also sending you some information about the optic boards. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Thank you for the feedback. I did the diagnostics check on the optic in the freezer and everything looks as though that is working fine so I am pretty confident that it is the control board in the water/ice dispenser itself that I need to replace. Looks as though that is an easy fix once I get the part. Thanks again for all the help
