Question and Answers

Q:

My kenmore elite ice maker doesn't work. I've replaced the water vlave and ice maker. Still doesn't work.

A:

You can find this kind of troubleshooting information is your owners manual. If you do not have yours, a handy thing about the Manage My Life website, is you can go onto the top of the Manage My Life website and click on the tab button then insert your model number into the search box. I have attached a link below so you can view. I hope the link that I have provided you is useful.

I am assuming the icemaker makes no ice and the icemaker and water valve have been replaced within the last 2 months.

Your refrigerator has some led's that turn the icemaker off when the ice bin is full. You see the blinking red led when you open the door.

I am sending you some images showing how to test the optic system of the refrigerator.

Q:

why is my ice maker not making ice consistently

A:

I understand the ice maker does not make ice when the red light fails to operate when door opened. While you wait for the expert answer, a suggestion I have is to check the troubleshooting guide in the manual. I found and attached the manual for your model below. Hope this helps!

From the description listed, this sounds like the optic board is defective. First check the harness connection and wires at the board. To access the board, remove the 3 screws holding the cover in place and you will be able to pull it out (see picture). First disconnect the power to the refrigerator. If all the wires appear to be intact and the harness is plugged in good, the boards will need to be replaced. Both boards come together as a kit # 4389102 and both will need to be replaced. The kit is available at SearsPartsDirect . If you would like more assistance, additional details will be needed.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
