Question and Answers

Q:

Water dispenser won't stop 10657704703 Kenmore Elite Side-by-side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for submitting your question. I understand your concern and I will be happy to assist you. Based off of your description, I believe the issue is the dispenser control as you stated. Just to be sure on the part, unlock the control and then disconnect the power from the refrigerator. If the water continues to flow, the water valve (W10159839) needs to be replaced. If the water does stop flowing, then replace the dispenser board (2252174). You can order parts from our Sears Parts Direct web site. I hope this helps. Please reply back to this thread if you require further assistance. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I understand how useful an ice maker is this time of year so it can be irritating when it stops operating properly. I am happy to help. The quickest way to check this, that can help determine the problem, is with the test terminals on the icemaker module. To access the module remove the front cover of the icemaker. You will now see the module and the terminals will be marked (image is provided below). Using a well insulated jumper, place it between L-V on the module. Be careful this is a hot (live) check. Water should now flow to the icemaker. If water does flow the icemaker # 2198597 will need to be replaced. If water still doesn't flow, the water valve will probably need to be replaced but some further voltage checks will need to be made to determine this for sure. A technician may be needed to make these checks.

You can order parts from our parts site at Sears Parts Direct. Just be sure to enter in that part number or have your model number available.

If you don't feel comfortable repairing this on your own, I recommend scheduling for a service appointment. Here is the link: Sears Home Services if you decide to schedule.

Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working.

From the sound of what you are describing, the refrigerator is locking because of a short or a open circuit.  The most common problem is the wires that run from the bottom of the left hand side of the cabinet to the freezer door.  The connectors become dirty and sometimes become loose.  You could remove the kick panel at the bottom of the cabinet and check this connector.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Bill
