Question and Answers

Q:

how to remove ice container with broken release handle 10657064602 Kenmore Side by side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears parts direct. I will be happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model number 1068619780; the release needs to be activated to remove the unit. Trying to remove it without activating it can cause damage to either component. Try bypassing the push in lever. Sometimes it can be difficult to remove and it’s easier to damage a part and replace it.

Thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business and have a good day.

Hi Jeff, when you say "damage a part" do you mean the ice container itself? Since it is broken already I certainly would be willing to damage it to get it off of the base. What would you suggest as the easiest way to forcefully remove it? How about cutting a whole in the white plastic base to give greater access to the release mechanism? I'm asking because I have no mental picture of what this mechanism looks like on the inside.

Thanks for the information about your refrigerator model 106.57064602; sorry you are having a problem, I will be glad to assist you. Based on your description here are a couple tips you can try yourself. If you are not hearing the auger motor run that is not unusual because of it being in the door it is hard to hear. Try removing the ice bucket from the door, with the door open hold the flipper closed on the door mullion and press the ice lever on the dispenser, observe to see if auger shaft is turning. Listen for a click when you depress the actuator for ice in as well. You should hear a click and the auger should rotate. If you do not hear the click on the actuator the problem may be the switches inside the dispenser, if you do hear the click but no auger movement there will need to be more intense testing to determine the cause. This could mean anything from a defective motor, switch wiring optics or more. It would be recommended to call for service at this point.

I hope this helps if you need additional help please reply with added details and I will be happy to respond.
