Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you're having this problem with the ice bin. First, check to see if the dispenser chute door is closing good. If it does not make a good seal, warm air will enter the chute and can create this problem. This can also happen if the door is opened excessively, kept open for long periods of time or if this is in a humid location. The reason for this is when the door is open, the bucket is out of the freezer and condensation can occur. A hair dryer can be used to free the bucket but be careful not to get it too hot. With the bucket out, you will be able to check it, to see what may be leaking. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Q:

How does the dispenser door spring go on?

A:

I'm sending you some pictures of the dispenser door and spring mechanism. However, it would be much simpler to replace the complete dispenser door assembly # 8201649 which is already assembled with the spring. I hope this helps you. If you need more assistance, you can resubmit your question with more details.

Q:

I have a Kenmore refrigerator that makes ice but wont dispense it.

A:

In reference to your Kenmore refrigerator, Model 106.56879602.

Ice can block the chute for any of the following reasons:

  • Alot of crushed ice which naturally sticks / freezes to inside of chute.
  • Not de-activating the dispenser when glass is full of ice.
  • Freezer temperature too cold.

  • Models with crushed ice, customer should dispense a couple cubes after dispensing crushed, to help clear the chute. See owner's manual for specific care instructions since ice buildup in chute is normal over time and will have to be removed manually.
  • If lever/pad is still being held after glass is full, ice will be forced back up the chute (no other place it can go). See owner's manual for correct usage instructions.
  • Customer should avoid setting the freezer too cold since "sub-zero" freezer temperature can cause the dispensed ice to rapidly freeze to the inside of the chute causing a blockage.
CAUTION: On models that have the ice bucket mounted on the door, ice jams can stall and damage the dispenser motor.

TIP: When a large amount of ice is needed, e.g. filling a cooler, remove the ice bucket and dump the ice into cooler "by hand" to prevent overheating dispenser motor .
