Q:

Kenmore model 10656872601. Ice maker not getting water to the tray. I have checked for kinks where the line is openly visible and found none. What's next?

A:

Hi,

Thanks for contacting  ManageMyLife.  I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance.

The first thing to check is the water inlet to the icemaker, is it frozen?  If it is not frozen, the next thing is to check the icemaker power.  Is the sensor light blinking when you open the freezer door?  If so the icemaker will need to be loosens and carefully pivoted to get to the module and remove the cover.  You will need a jumper wire like is shown in the picture made of 14 gauge wire and insulated to prevent electric shock.  You will also need a multimeter and have the ability to check LIVE voltage to the icemaker and to the water valve from the icemaker and voltage at the water valve.

The first check is to check L to N for 120 volts.  The door switch needs to be taped to the closed position for the tests.

Next, if the 120 volts is present on L to N.  is to use the jumper and jump L to V and being careful of the water inlet to the icemaker, because if the valve is working  water will start to fill the into the icemaker.  You will need to position the icemaker so the water will fill into it or be caught in a suitable container.

If no water is flowing into the icemaker, the voltage to the water valve will need to be checked while the jumper is installed on L to V contacts at the icemaker.

NOTE:  Live voltage checks are dangerous, and possibly deadly. Exercise caution at all times.

If you are not comfortable working with live electricity I recommend you call a Sears Home Services  technician.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern. Based on the information listed, the evaporator fan motor # 2315549 will need to be replaced. It's located behind the back panel (# 17 in picture). Everything in the lower section of the freezer will need to be removed, so the back panel can be taken out. Be sure to disconnect power to the unit first. This motor is available at SearsPartsDirect . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

How can I safely open the air filter compartment on a Kenmore refrigerator model 106.56872601?

A:

Unfortunately, the model listed does not show to have a filtered air system. I suspect you may be referring to the louvered vent, for the return air. If so, there is no filter in it nor should it be. If your model does have a filtered air system, please send a picture of the vent in question (if possible) and also please recheck to verify the model number.
