Question and Answers

Q:

Water filter 106.56863600

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

After replacing the water filter, you will need to press and hold the RESET button for roughly 2-5 seconds to reset the filter indicator. If that is not occurring, try to unplug the refrigerator for 5 minutes and try again. If it still doesn't reset the indicator, there could be an issue within the control.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

It's not one of the normal noises which I am aware of as described in the manual. This is a recent new clicking for about 5 to 8 seconds perhaps every couple of hours. The refridg is about 5 years old. What is the function of the Capacitor that sits on top of the Start Device & Relay that I already replaced this week?

A:

I can understand your concern about this noise. The information you have received is good. Yes, it is possible the capacitor may be weak and the clicking sound will still occur. If it is weak, the compressor could be having a hard time starting and this would still cause the clicking sound. Whenever the starting device is replaced, it's always a good idea to also replace the capacitor. If the noise is coming from under the cabinet and if it still occurs after the capacitor is also replaced, it will indicate the compressor itself is probably the problem. Unless this is still under the 5 yr warranty period, I would not recommend repairing it. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thanks Scott for your additional info on the Capacitor possibly being weak. I shall order the part and try replacing it in the next couple of days. You also indicate that if that does not correct the clicking/knocking noise, it could be the compressor. Yes, the unit is under 5 years, April 2011 will be 5 years. Does the compressor have a 5 year warrenty? I could not find that in the warrenty paperwork. Also, I did not fully understand your response about not repairing it. Do you mean I should contact the company or a local repair tech to have them cover the replacemnet compressor if it's under 5 years, which it currently is. Thank you, Joe

A:

By not repairing it, I mean, if it's out of warranty, it would not be economical to replace the compressor. Unfortunately, the compressor in this model only has a 1 yr warranty. I'm attaching a copy of the warranty from the owner's manual. If it were still under warranty, you could call 1-800-469-4663 to have a Sears technician come out.
