The answer James R sent has good information. The popping sound usually comes from a damaged or loose part in the door closer assembly.

To access the parts, remove the food from the door and turn the refrigerator control off or unplug it.

  • Remove the top hinge cover at the top of the door.

  • Remove the screws holding the top hinge to the cabinet and remove the top hinge.

  • Lift the refrigerator door off the lower hinge and lay it on a padded surface.

  • Visually inspect the upper and lower parts for the door closer for wear or looseness. If you don't find any damage or a loose screw, coat the door closer with a light film of silicone grease or Vaseline Petroleum Jelly.

You can order parts and see a parts diagram of the refrigerator at [www.partsdirect.com?sid=MMLxexpertxmerch].
