Question and Answers

Q:

fridge side not cooling 10656824603 Kenmore Side by side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your refrigerator is not working properly.

Check evaporator fan motor operation. If the evaporator fan motor is not operating properly.

I recommend opening the freezer door and listen to see if you can hear the motor running inside the freezer. If you can hear it running the motor should be ok. To check the condenser motor, you will need to pull the refrigerator out far enough to get behind it and remove the back panel cover. It has a couple of screws on each side holding it in place. I suggest disconnecting the power first. With the cover off, you will see the motor. Now, wait at least 5 minutes and reconnect the power. Now, watch to see if the motor runs. If it does, this motor will be ok also. Now, you will also be able to see the compressor and listen to see if it runs. If the compressor runs but not the motor, then the motor will need to be replaced.

2188874 is the motor.

Hi,

Thank you for asking this question and allow me to answer it this way.

What is the temperature inside the freezer? Sounds like a temperature problem with the freezer section but without the temperature it would be hard to say. The led that blink twice when you open the door means the ice maker sensors are working and the water is stored in a tank in the fresh food section and may be somewhat cool depending on amount used. Is the compressor running all the time or not running at all? I would start with the Defrost control board in the top of the fresh food section, inside the panel. Or the thermostat that controls the temperature, also inside of the panel.

I hope this answer is useful and that it helps you correct the problem with your appliance.
Thank you for using ManageMyLife.

Bill W i appreciate your response. I realize i wasn't clear with my request, my apologies. Its the ice maker on the freezer side that is not working. I get chilled water fine but no action on the ice maker. So water flow seems to be good into the side by side but after that unclear if there could be a clog into ice maker or the ice maker itself has some sort of issue.

Greg, I would recommend you check the water inlet to the icemaker, Is it frozen up? The icemaker is a modular icemaker and it can be checked use a multimeter. When you open the freezer door does the led on the sensor blink twice? If so I would check the icemaker for function. Below is some of the check you need to do with the icemaker if the sensor are blinking twice.

Bill W i have pulled the modular icemaker per your suggestion. Yes the sensor is blinking twice. I have verified i have 115V coming into the icemaker from the incoming cable bundle interconnect. I don't believe frozen water feed possible as i was hit by Sandy and the unit was w/o power for two days so any possible freeze would have broken free during that time. Note icemaker was not operating prior to Sandy so that was not a factor here. I did not see the multimeter check's you referred to in your last response, pls resend link or attachment. I would greatly like to see those so I can troubleshoot what is appearing to be an electrically related fault of some sort. Considering only 4 wires in the icemaker bundle, a hot, a neutral, and assuming two control related wires this shouldn't be too hard to diagnose if I had the diagnostic routines from the manufacturer or the schematics. Txs again! Greg

Bill W there is something not working here with the web site. i never see the attachments or documents you ref in your responses. Clearly you were trying to provide me with the icemaker troubleshooting documentation but there was none there when i look at your response. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and I'm supposed to click on another button somewhere but I can't find one. Is it possible for you to send this doc directly to my email address....gregt50@aol.com.....again appreciate your effort here. I don't want to spend $140 for a new icemaker unless i can determine its in fact bad. txs!!
