Question and Answers

Q:

Quits cooling but starts back 10656724602 Kenmore Side by side refrigerator

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question your Kenmore refrigerator model 10656724602. I am sorry the refrigerator isn’t maintaining the right temperature. That is definitely not safe for food storage and I can understand your concern. I will be happy to help you with this.

There are several possible causes for this issue. I recommend you start by checking to see if the defrost cycle is functioning properly. If the defrost doesn’t run long enough or often enough, you will get an excess of frost accumulation. This will eventually lead to a restriction in the air flow between the freezer and the refrigerator. It is possible that the refrigerator stops cooling until this excess ice melts away. Then once the refrigerator starts cooling again, the ice begins to build back up.

Another cause could be an excess accumulation of dust on the condenser assembly. You can clean this with a soft bristle brush and then vacuum up the debris. Do not use a vacuum clean directly on the coils as that can damage them.

The issue could also be a result of a failing overload, capacitor, relay or compressor. These parts should only be tested and serviced by a qualified technician. The starter and capacitor to the compressor can retain dangerous levels of electricity even when the refrigerator is unplugged and the compressor uses coolant that can only be replaced by a qualified technician. For these reasons, I do not recommend attempting this repair yourself. To set up service go to www.SearsHomeServices.com or call 1-800-4MY-HOME (1-800-469-4663).

I hope this answers your question.. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having this problem with your refrigerator. The good thing is that it is still cooling.

If I understand you correctly you are saying that the light bulb that is up in the control area is not working. And that you have replaced the bulb, but it still does not work.

• I t sounds like light switch or the light socket, has failed, especially since you said that it was flickering.

• The easiest to repair is the light switch, but both are contained in the control panel assembly.

• To repair either the switch or the socket, REMOVE POWER from the refrigerator and locate and remove the two screws that holds the control panel to the ceiling of the refrigerator. Then release the tabs in the back of the control panel and lower the control panel to access the components.

• To replace the light switch release the plastic tabs that holds the switch into the control panel. Disconnect the wires to the switch and re-install the new switch.

• To replace the bulb socket you can remove the bulb and release the plastic tabs that holds the socket into the control housing and then remove the wires from the old socket to the new socket and re-install.

The part numbers for these parts are: Bulb socket is: 4387478.For the light switch is: 2149705. And you can order these parts from Sears Parts Direct .

I have also included a link to for service. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

I hope this will help.
