Q:

Why won't the icemaker work?

A:

The icemaker in this model can stop working for a few reasons. Some are listed below:

  • The icemaker itself can fail
  • The water valve may not open
  • The optic boards can fail
  • The fill tube can freeze up
  • Freezer temperature not cold enough
The blinking led light can be flashing a code that will indicate the problem. I'm sending a chart for the light. This icemaker has some test terminals on the module that can help determine the problem. To access the module, pull the front of the icemaker cover off. With the cover off you will see the module and the test terminals will be marked (I'm sending you a picture). Using a well insulated jumper, place it between the L-V terminals. Be careful this is a hot (live) check. With the jumper in place, water should now flow to the icemaker. If water does flow the icemaker will need to be replaced. If no water flows the valve will probably need to be replaced but some voltage checks will need to be made to determine for sure. A volt/ohm meter will be required. Sorry to hear of the no cooling issue you are having with the refrigerator when the compressor is running. I know how concerning that is.

From the description you give most likely you have a sealed system or compressor problem. Is the compressor excessively hot? Does the compressor fan motor at the back bottom operate? 
I would recommend having a technician come out and check the compressor for adequate refrigerant and for any compressor related issues. Due to the fact that it does turn on and run, but does not cool indicates either the compressor is low on refrigerant or there is a compressor related issue. Sealed system repairs are expensive and it is usually a better investment to put the money toward the purchase of a new refrigerator, but it is worth checking the refrigerant level before going ahead and looking for a replacement.
