Thanks for contacting manage my life about your refrigerator, I will be glad to assist you with this. You can disinfect the dispenser using your favorite product by unplugging the power supply and applying the product to exposed dispenser parts, allow dry time before reapplying power supply. There is no method for disinfecting the sealed water system. Most models have filters that do a very good job if changed on regular bases. If your model does not have a built-in filter you can have an in-line filter installed on the water supply line behind the refrigerator. I hope this helps. If you need more help reply with the model number off your refrigerator and more details and I will be happy to respond. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services. Ron H.

thks Ron - appreciate your time. My model is 106560072791 - to be honest I dont know, or think I have a filter in the fridge, but I do have an in-line external filter. I thought that if I disconnect at the filter and 'syringe' a bleach and water solution up the line and have someone run the dispenser so it circulates then plug the line, let sit for 24 hours then flush considerable time to cleanse the bleach - much the same as what they suggest to 'shock' a well water system to the house taps. comment?

Hi Bob, I'm sue that will work for internal flushing. Just be sure that you call for water from the dispenser in 15 second intervals (on 15 off 150 this will not over heat the valve. If you have an ice maker be sure to toss away the first few batches made after cleaning, The model number you provided is incorrect as I cannot retrieve any data using it. Ron H.
