Question and Answers

Why did the ice maker stop working on my Kenmore refrigerator?

Here are some troubleshooting tips for your ice maker:

  • Check the wire shut-off arm to make sure that it is in the full down position. If it is even slightly raised, the ice maker will not cycle.
  • Check your freezer temperature. If the freezer is above 14 degrees F, the ice maker will not cycle.
  • Check the water chute that fills the ice maker in the back of the freezer. Make sure that it is not frozen. A freeze plug in this area will prevent the ice maker from filling.
  • Make sure that the wiring harness for the ice maker module is properly plugged in.
If you have the technical ability to safely conduct advanced troubleshooting, the image below describes a process for manually cycling the ice maker by jumping contacts with an insulated jumper wire. Carefully follow the troubleshooting steps in this image to help you determine the cause of your failure.
