Question and Answers

Q:

What can cause my Kenmore refrigerator model number 106.53792201 to prevent water from going into ice maker?

A:

On something like this you will need to use a volt/ohm meter to test the voltage coming to the water valve. If you are comfortable and confident in diagnosing and repairing the ice maker yourself you can pull the cover off of the icemaker & use an insulated piece of 14 gauge wire to jump across L to V, this will send 120 volts to the water valve. Have your volt meter connected to the water valve plug-in harness, white to tan, to see if you're reading 120 volts. If you read 120 volts & have no water entering the icemaker I suspect a bad water valve. When the water valve fails like this you want to be sure to check for a frozen fill line where the fill tube goes into the freezer. If you do not read 120 volts to the valve following the previous test I suspect a bad ice module or wiring harness. You may want to consider calling for service to have a service technician properly diagnose and repair your ice maker.
