Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore side by side refrigerator mod # 106.53544300 and the Ice maker cycles when on but the tray doesn't fill with water

A:

Thank you for submitting your question. I understand your concern and I will be happy to assist you. The image below shoud help you put the torsion spring back into place. Unplug the refrigerator to disconnect electrical power. Remove the drip tray. On some models you will find two screws at the bottom of the housing. If you find screws, remove them and then remove the dispenser housing cover. If your housing does not have screws, it will need to be pried off. This will give you access to the screws that hold the control bracket in place. Remove the screws that secure the control bracket and position it out of the way. This should give you access so that you can snap out the plastic shield and the paddle. You should then be able to put the pin back into place. If you have to replace the pin or any other part in the ice door chute assembly, the kit is part numer 8201649. You can order parts from our Sears Parts Direct web site. I hope this helps. Please reply back to this thread if you require further assistance. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

I've put the torsion spring back together and ice dispenser releasing ice from door. My question now is why isn't the on ice cube tray filling with water when ice maker is on? It continually cycles but the only way I can get ice is if I manually fill it. I have replaced the filter. Please provide me with possible solutions. Thanks

Mark, if the ice maker will cycle fine when you manually add water, then the issue will be with your water valve for the ice maker and it'll need replacement. If you have an ohms/volt meter you can test the water valve to verify the part. Even if your water dispenser is getting water, the water valve could still be faulty in regards to the ice maker. The link below is a great video on how to test the water valv with an ohms meter. I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com. I'm sorry to hear about the intermittent cooling issues you are having with the refrigerator, I know how frustrating it can be to not have a totally functional refrigerator.

The start relay allows the compressor to come on, and since your compressor is coming on intermittently, it sounds like the issue is coming from the thermostat or sensor itself and no longer a compressor issue. The thermostat may be intermittent or have a faulty signal to the compressor until it is manually adjusted. I would recommend using a multimeter to check the continuity of the thermostat or replace it.

For your convenience, I have included a blue link below you can click on to be directed to the PartsDirect page to purchase the thermostat assembly if needed.

Q:

Does this model have Tempered Glass

A:

Please help me! I've googled this information for over an hour, stupid enough as it may seem and cannot seem to find a manual to download to answer this question for me. I believe it or not would like an honest answer if it's at all possible. I will be entertaing tomorrow and have made about 3 gallons of HOT marinara that I'd like to refrigerate so I can goto sleep before needing to take my ill father to the VA and be up by 6...in 3 hours. I realise this is not an electrical issue or repair problem, however SEARS sent me here for help. Did they lie? I absolutely tried to answer this stupid question myself before trying to involve anyone else. Can you help me?

I understand needing to have further information regarding your refrigerator. I am happy to help. I did some research and found the glass is tempered. This is within the manual on page 4. Please click here to view. However, it is never recommended to place any 'hot' items inside the refrigerator. This is because it can eventually crack the glass and plastic within the refrigerator. I recommend placing your sauce in a storage safe container and place it on your counter, with a pot holder underneath, to cool. Before going to bed check the container, if it is warm to the touch it is safe to place inside the refrigerator. Keep the pot holder underneath the container as well as an extra safety measure.

I hope this information is useful. If you need further assistance please feel free to reply back to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
