Thank you for your question. To by-pass the filter in this refrigerator, simply remove the filter. There is an auto by-pass built into the housing, when the filter is removed. If you still have the original filter place the 2 filters side by side and compare them.

It is possible you received a defective filter. Remove the filter and cover and inspect the inside of the filter housing with a flashlight. Something might have came off the original filter when you removed it and is inside the housing keeping the replacement filter from going in properly.

If you don't find anything return the filter for exchange. It might be defective.
