Q:

why won't my freezer make ice?

A:

I see your freezer is not making ice and I know how annoying that can be. I found the manual to your Kenmore Refrigerator, in Manage My Life under the Manuals button. There is a page with troubleshooting suggestions that might be helpful to you. I attached the link below. I hope this helps!!!!!!!

Try melting the existing ice with a hair dryer. This may get the water flowing again. When I turn the ice maker off for a few days it sometimes gets frozen in place or stuck. If that doesn't work it may be the gear that turns the ice out of the trays. We have replaced that too. Good Luck

If you don’t have any water or ice in the mold of the icemaker try these instructions. If the icemaker is full of ice and not dumping any, replace the icemaker.

Remove the ice bin from the freezer and look good at the icemaker fill tube above and behind your icemaker. If it is frozen up the water can’t reach the icemaker.

If the fill tube isn’t frozen up the easiest way to test the water valve is to swap the wires on the water valve. Pull the refrigerator away from the wall and unplug it.

  • Remove the cover across the bottom at the back of the refrigerator.

  • The wires for the solenoid coils on the water valve are in pairs. Unplug the wires from the solenoids and reverse them.

  • With the ice bucket out of the freezer so you can see the icemaker.

  • Plug the refrigerator in and open the freezer door. Hold the light switch in and get someone to depress the cradle on the dispenser for water. The water should run into the icemaker.

If water runs into the icemaker you need a new icemaker. If the water doesn’t run into the icemaker you need a new water valve.
