Question and Answers

Q:

Ice maker not working 10650542001 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Kenmore refrigerator.

From the information you have provided above, I can understand the frustration of having your ice maker malfunction, after researching model number 106.50542001. Yes, the water goers through the filter first before entering the ice maker. If you haven’t switched the filter out in the last 6 months I would highly recommend doing so. Another part to cause the water to not reach the ice maker is the water inlet valve.

I hope you found this information useful. Again thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business, have a great day.

Ice buildup in the refrigerator does need to be addresses. I see there is what appears to be shaved ice under the ice maker. This is most likely heavy frost building up. There are couple of things that you can do.

Use the image below to visually check the area in the housing that maybe causing excess air flow and condensation. The second image contains the parts numbers if needed. You can order parts here; Sears Parts Direct .

Also check for frost or ice buildup in the air baffle and return air ducts between the freezer and refrigerator as well as moisture under the shelves or in pans. There may be other areas needing attention and seals.

I see the images are not transferring properly. I an e-mailing the images to you.

If further information is needed, please reply. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

So the manual says to order replacement part #9902. Is the part available?

A:

Thank you for your question. I understand your concern about the filter. This is the correct filter and the 9902 filter will change to a 9010 filter. This filter has been redesigned at the end of the filter to make it stronger. It will fit but can be hard to turn and more force then normal may be required to turn it. I hope this will help you.

Sorry but you are wrong. The new water filter WILL NOT TURN. I found a replacement that works perfectly as it is configured exactly like the old 9902. It is Aquafresh WF285. In the future "experts" like you should try your own advice before you give it.

A:

Brian, in most all instances, the new replacement filter will work but it can be hard to turn with the new design. We have also tried this new filter and it does work. We have contacted the source about this problem and they assured us that the new filter will work but can be difficult to turn. I'm very sorry the filter you received did not turn and I would like to thank you for the tip on the replacement filter.
