Vegetables cost too much to have to throw away. I understand what a problem this is. I see you have taken some steps already.

This can be an air flow problem or if the freezer temperature gets excessively cold (below zero degrees) this can occur. To check the temperature, place a thermometer between some packages. Air temp is not a good check. If it is too cold, usually adjusting the control to a warmer setting will correct this problem. If the temperature is ok (between 0 and 5 degrees), this will be an air flow problem. Try setting the damper control for less air flow into the fridge and set the thermostat to a slightly colder setting. This will keep the unit running a little longer and help keep the air circulating. You can also close the air louver at the bottom, to prevent a cold air migration back from the freezer. Any change to the temperature controls does require about 24 hours to adjust. If it freezes all the time, normally, to reduce the temperature, close the air duct next to it completely off. If it still freezes, the vent may need to be plugged. A technician will usually do this from the freezer side. You might try a piece of duct tape over this vent just to see if it helps. If it does, a air duct insert may be what is needed. The part # is 8201814.

I hope this information helps stop the veggies from freezing. If further help is needed, please reply. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

check the bottom of your fridge and make sure the coils are free of dust/dirt. also make sure the refigerator has adequate room for ventilation. the fan on the back is designed to draw air across the coils to cool the refrigerant down.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with your refrigerator. First, make sure the fan in the freezer section is working. If it's turning slow or not at all, it will cause this type of problem. If it seems to be working ok, this will lead to a problem in the defrost system. A good check for this will be to manually advance it into a defrost cycle. This is done by doing the following in the order listed.

  1. Disconnect the power
  2. Turn the thermostat off and leave it off
  3. Reconnect the power
After a few minutes, if you can hear a sizzling or hissing sound in the freezer, it means the heating element is working. This will indicate the defrost control board # 4388932 is not advancing and will need to be replaced. It's available at SearsPartsDirect . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

The problem is probably in the defrost system of the refrigerator. I am sending you an image with instructions for forcing your refrigerator to defrost.

I recommend you remove the food from the freezer and remove the evaporator cover from the rear wall of the freezer. Force the refrigerator into defrost and see if the defrost heater gets hot. If the heater gets hot, the problem is probably the adaptive defrost control board which is mounted inside the control panel in the refrigerator section.

If you have questions, reply on this thread and I will be glad to help.
