Q:

Kenmore refrigerator stopped cooling

A:

Something that will have this kind of troubleshooting information is your owners manual. If you do not have yours, a handy thing about the Manage My Life website, is you can go onto the top of the Manage My Life website and click on the tab button then insert your model number into the search box. I have attached a link below so you can view. I hope the link that I have provided you is useful.

Chris: A failed start device could be causing this problem. It would probably be worth it to replace the start device to see if this fixes your problem. If the original production compressor is still in the refrigerator, then the replacement start device is a kit (part number 8201786). You can order this kit from the Sears PartsDirect website. It costs about $60. It will come with instructions. Here is a direct link for that kit: Start-dev .

Be sure that you have the refrigerator unplugged when accessing internal components.

If the compressor is locked up, replacing this device will not fix the problem that you are having with the refrigerator. It is probably worth the risk to replace the start device based on your description.

If the compressor is bad, you will need to have a service technician repair the refrigerator (or you can replace the refrigerator). Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it: Sears Home Services .

Clayton: The same kit is used for the start device on your refrigerator model 106.44252401. You can unplug the refrigerator and remove the bottom rear service panel on the back of the refrigerator to access the start device on the compressor. You can view the parts list diagram for your refrigerator on the Sears PartsDirect website if you need to see the parts. If you need more help, let us know.

Thank you all for your response. After a little more searching I found someone with the exact same problem with their start device. They replaced it and the refrigerator worked again. I ordered the part and will let you know what happens. A very easy fix if it works.

The part showed up in a couple of days and it took less than half of an hour to install. When the refrigerator was plugged in i could hear the compressor start up and stay running. The next day I checked to see if it was cold. It was working again. It was well wirth the time and money spent to fix it. The part was about 60 dollars and 3.5 hours of my time was spent on research and labor. The part was a direct replacement.
