I can understand wanting to replace the small air line with plastic tubing.

I believe the old tubing is aluminum and you can use 1/4 inch aluminum tubing because the unloader tubing goes directly to the head and because of the heat created by the head I would be concerned that the plastic tubing would blow out from being to warm. The aluminum tubing should work fine on the plastic compression fitting.

The models that use the plastic tubing the tubing is hooked up to the check valve on the tank.

There is a tubing kit you can purchase from Sears. The part number for this tubing kit is: 98/980/STD516131 for about $30.00. And you can purchase it from:Sears Parts Direct .

You should also be able to purchase a new correct length piece of tubing from a local hardware store.
