Q:

Spindle grease fitting/Belt Keeper placement

A:

Information and pictures provided by the manufacturer can sometimes be contradictory. The expert will review your model and information and respond within two days, possibly sooner. I see you have the manual and diagrams and seem comfortable doing your own repairs, so there is probably nothing else we can offer while you wait for the expert. Have a great day.

I will be happy to assist you. I looked up the bearings for the mower deck. The part number for the bearing is 941-0919A. I searched online for the bearing and found it is a sealed bearing. This type of bearing is not grease able. That would explain why yours does not have grease zerks. Originally, this model did not have sealed bearings but due to them not being greased regularly, they failed. Therefore, the manufacturer changed to sealed bearings. I searched for a belt keeper rod. I could not find a part with that description. If you could please post the part number of the part, I will be happy to look it up. I will also give you instructions for installing it.

Mark thanks for the information on the spindle sealed bearings. As for the belt keeper rod it is referred to "Belt Guard" in the parts list. The part number is 747-05171. As I said earlier, I learned the hard way that it is to go in one of the slots on the clutch. I almost pulled the wire out of the clutch when it wound around the shaft. The question I have is does it make a difference which slot it fits in? It seems to work where I have placed it,however there is no clear direction in the operators manual.

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you with finding the fuse. The fuse on your tractor is located back by the battery. You should be able to see the fuse just to the left of the battery below the fender.

I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to add more details below if you need further assistance.

Mark, I have two Issues. First, The owners manual for my Craftsman Lawn Tractor Model 247.28980 says to grease the deck spindles and shows a grease fitting , however there is none. I saw one of your post telling someone the excact same thing the manual said and you included the same photo. Trust me there is no fitting. As a result I had to replace my spindles and the replacements have no fittings either. I suppose I can drill and tap for fittings. Second, when removing the cutting dect it is neccessary to remove the belt keeper rod. However, when reinstalling the keeper the manual does not make it clear if the keeper is to go in one of the slots of the clutch. In fact, the photo does not show it in a slot. I learned the hard way that it does indeed need to go in one of the slots. Does it make a difference which slot is used or which side of the keeper to ingage?
